I’ve started my journey down the sourdough trail. Can you believe it, another hobby? I’m enjoying it. I’m still more in the starter stage than the bread stage. The fear of baking a loaf was oppressive. I haven’t felt that in quite some time. I think what fueled the fear was going onto YouTube and watching videos. I swear, out of ten people I watched, there were ten different styles of making it. It was too much. Too Much!!!!
While watching the videos, my only thought was that the culinary world needed an organization like the W3C…the World Wide Web Consortium. It lays out the standard of coding HTML in the world of web. If everyone made sourdough loaves the same way, people wouldn’t feel so terrified and confused to start baking it.
The image above is my first attempt at a loaf. I followed a recipe I found online. I don’t think I will ever use that one again. The rests were ordinary, but the lengths of those rest were obviously not long enough. Mine were under fermented. The recipe made enough dough for two loaves. Another issue is that it’s currently winter and our house stays cold. With my husband, there cannot be a warm/hot house. Hopefully, when summer arrives, I will have better results.
In the meantime, I have purchased a proofing box to help out with the rise. I’ll write more later about that.
Until then…
