New Snail Mail Address…Yay

I understand how he feels!

I understand how he feels!

Today, I ventured to the local post office and purchased the use of a post office box! Readers can not only e-mail, they can now send real paper mail…you know, the stuff that people don’t do anymore because the postal workers no longer care about the people who use the service.  Now, explain to me why in the world a postal worker would become so unconcerned with customer service.  The government is always talking about how they aren’t making money from the USPS.  They continue to raise the price of stamps every time we turn around.  They say nothing works.

How about this suggestion: Tell your employees that the people coming to the post office to mail things pay their salaries!  Remind them of what it’s like when they go into a retail store and there is a line of more than six people and they get irritated because there is only one single register open.  Remind the post master of the need to get at least three or four people at the register to keep the line down.  Remind them that there could easily be a change in the world where the only form of communication is by e-mail.

My experience at the PO was no different than anyone else.  I picked up a form yesterday to obtain a PO box for the blog/podcast.  I returned today with the pieces of ID I had available…my driver’s license and my Social Security card.  Nope! Did anyone ever explain to us the total uselessness of this card?  It should be somewhat useful to us since it says we are a citizen of the country.  So I take my application back home and try to find one of the six requested things

  1. State issued driver’s license
  2. Passport, voter registration card, or certificate of nationalization
  3. Automobile registration
  4. Vehicle insurance policy
  5. Home mortgage or title deed
  6. Gov’t, military, university, or employment identification card.

You would think that my birth certificate would be enough to prove I am a US born citizen.  NO!  I have no passport because I am destined to spend the rest of my natural life in the confines of US borders.  I have no automobile registered in my name.  The house is on the partner’s name because I didn’t make enough when it was purchased.  I’ve never owned any land.  And, I haven’t the slightest clue as to where my voter registration card is located.  I had not noticed the university ID card in the list of requirements.  I go to a small technical college.  The ID doesn’t say really anything at all….just that I attend.  My birth certificate wouldn’t work…but a cheap card used to get discounts at the movie theater provided them with all they needed.  How totally stupid is that?!

After all that, I have my mailing address for the blog and podcast. It is:

The Gay Country Boy Podcast
PO Box 1686
Buford, GA  30515-1686

I will be sending out Christmas (Chrima) cards soon.  I think all of my cards this year will be from this address. Makes it much easier to send and receive.

Until next time, country people!

And just what does one have to do to get a Chrima Card?
